From looking at both the NYC DOE SHSAT Handbook and the Barrons 2019-2020 SHSAT book iv'e seen that the type of questions from the practice tests are different. Does anyone know which practice test is more like the real thing? Im scoring about the same in each one (55/57) and (54/57) for Barrons and (52/57) and (55/57) for the handbook. Thanks!

The DOE does not release Grade 9 SHSAT cutoffs, I can't tell you how many times and ways I tried to get those numbers. In any event, my rule of thumb is to add about 50 points to the Grade 8 scores. Remember that the Grade 9 SHSAT has more topics possible.SHSAT 9 is a superset of SHSAT 8. You should master 8 plus the traditional additional 9 topics. For topics see these: 8 is hard and 9 is hard but it's relative. It's not like 9 is twice as hard. But, if has different dynamics involved with it given ~3K student vying for ~100 seats. Yeah ik it’s not suppose to match in level, but the thing is, only 20% of the math like problems were on the test. Most of the problems I got for my form was percents, algebra solving for x, proportional relationship, probability incorporated into higher thinking order questions, permutations, circles, and area and surface area.

Yes, there is overlap with some other exams and other classes, but IME unless your super tops using other different exams and material intended for other things can easily backfire; I've seen it way too many times.
